What gear and what PEV do you use in the rain?
Rainy season just started hitting here in Portland and I’m riding a G2 ninebot because I’m not comfortable with the water proofing on the S18 monowheel
Breathable waterproof shell from outdoor gear companies (Gore-Tex or similar), including both a jacket and pants. Waterproof shoes from Vessi or similar. Water proof or resistant cycling gloves.
Everything should be waterproof except your face. Haven’t found a good solution for that yet but it doesn’t bother me too much.
Most bikes do fine in rain but fenders are highly recommended so you don’t get covered in grime.
Just a regular rain poncho but we don’t get a crazy amount of rain. Most of the time I don’t even wear it and just ride in the rain unless it’s cold out.
If you have glasses that can get ruined in the rain, maybe look into some of the ebike helmets with eye protection, like this one from Lazer or this one from lumos. There are probably others from similar brands, these are just two I know of off hand. Likewise, for rain, there’s ponchos/raincapes. They’re more for bikes, but they should be fine for scooters, too. If ponchos are too dorky, a good pair of rain pants and a rain jacket will be useful not just for your scooter, but day to day outdoor stuff in the pnw.
That lumos helmet looks cool. I ride a unicycle though so my odds of faceplanting require a chin guard.
I’m definitely ordering a poncho
Ah my mistake. I read Ninebot and assumed you were on an electric scooter. Definitely keep your full face helmet for an euc. Good luck out there!
That is so cool, I want one! Mine is just a cheap OD green nylon from some company I don’t even remember (Rothco maybe?)
Just a waterproof poncho, but if you’re looking for budget wet weather gear check out Frog Toggs. I have a couple waterproof shells and stuff like GoreTex and eVent are great, but i’d worry too much about it being stolen from my bike bag plus the poncho can cover the bike when I lock up.
Waterproof over-trousers (Regatta Stormbreak) and a cheap rain jacket. I was contemplating a poncho, but ultimately settled on the rain jacket as it’s more portable.
I had a nice breathable rain jacket before, but the waterproofing got ruined after I washed it with the wrong stuff.
Current bike is non-electric, but has front and rear fenders to keep most of the muck away from my shoes and my back. My previous bike had no fenders and uh… there was always a long brown line down my back after arriving at work wet 😅
If you still have the old rain jacket its pretty easy to restore the DWR treatment with a product called nikwax.
