    I work in higher ed. If we’re focusing on “the economy” alone, international students bring SERIOUS MONEY to the communities where they attend college.

    Like. They have to have liquid cash to cover a year’s worth of expenses in order to even be accepted to the university. That’s tens of thousands of dollars in foreign money flowing to local landlords, grocery stores, utility services, etc., multiplied by dozens or hundreds of students EVERY YEAR.

      My local college was trying to focus on recruiting international students to boost numbers. That feels like a much harder sell this year.

        Yeah. Students are leaving early because, reasonably so, they’d rather go home then end up in El Salvador.

      Conservatism isn’t rational. It is fear and hate. It’s a child slamming their head into the floor sobbing because their teddy bear is wearing the wrong shirt.

      They should not be allowed to make decisions of any import.
