  • shifted to the point where a double Sieg Heil at your president’s inauguration is within normal discourse

Haha thank you. I’m not even American but to me it’s pretty shocking to find out that this place, world of all instances, is too ‘extreme’ for people. Maybe I really am a dirty radical but I think that if people who consider themselves democrats are still fucking clutching their pearls about the left wing being too left wing while Elon Musk does open nazi salutes and trans people get their rights and dignity stripped away, then it’s no wonder the USA is so fucked.

You guys clearly need a new political party because your choices are overt right wingers, or spineless right wingers that like to pretend they represent the left.

Edit: maybe the bad men will see the light if we all hold hands and sing kumbaya. I’m sure that all of the people who are already finding themselves victims to this will thank you for taking the high road and not scaring too many centrists.

  • Around the time I first started using this username about 7 or so years ago, I was playing through the Megaman Zero games, that take place approximately 100 years after the events of Megaman X, which take place during “year 21xx”. So ‘Zero22xx’ specifically references the version of Zero from the Megaman Zero games.

On top of that, I also just thought it was a cool mix of letters and numbers that can look pretty random if you don’t know the games, or if I’m not using a profile pic.

The only annoying thing is that at some point around the time I created this username, I started seeing an anime character called ‘ZeroTwo’ around. So I guess it could be mistaken that I’m referencing that too.

  • I’m late here but felt like sharing my goblin tendencies too. I’ve actually got a lot of random shit that I collect and keep in a box, thought I would take a couple of my favourites out. Sorry for potato quality picture, I have a potato quality phone.

    • A plasticky spiked collar that a stripper I used to party with and had a huge crush on took off from her neck on put on mine one night. And no, I’m not the strip club type and never even watched her work, her and her colleagues and friends used to frequent the metal/alternative club that I haunted. 15 to 20 years ago. Actually I’m not that old yet, more like 10 to 15 years ago.
    • A card with a witch that I found lying on the ground probably also around 15 years ago. Says “creative child games” on the back.
    • A completely washed away and blank puzzle piece that I also picked up off the ground somewhere.
    • A round rock with the word “Safety” written on it that was randomly handed to me by a hippie girl at a music festival years ago.
    • A very poorly cut black tourmaline (or so I was told) that I bought at a flea market for way too much money while tripping balls on ecstacy. That was while I was still in my hippie phase so very close to 20 years ago.
    • Lucky beans! I’ve just always loved them since I was a kid and have bunch floating around. I’ve even put some in the linings of one of my jackets.

I’ve actually been a boring hermit for at least the last 10 years, so I’m running out of trinkets with cool stories attached to them though.

  • Someone needs to start keeping a central list of all corporations and organisations that have been rolling over like they’ve been waiting for this moment all their lives. Just to keep around as reminders, any time they decide to do a little rainbow capitalism or black history month marketing.

If the world, and especially the USA regains its senses, please all I ask is that everyone remembers exactly who these people are when they’re begging for your money and support again.

  • They’re really not meaningless though. For one thing, they allow moderators and admins to more easily detect trolls and bad faith actors. And on platforms or with add-ons that allow better tracking of vote history, it allows the user to more efficiently moderate their own experience, should they so choose.

Also, I think you’ve got to be kind of an asshole to not recognise that a little bit of validation from communities that you participate in is a nice thing to have and that downvotes can hurt to an extent, even if it’s not the same as getting physically slapped. And to be clear, I’m not pointing at you or anyone, I’m just riffing here. I haven’t even seen downvotes for a while now.

So yeah, I’d say they’re meaningless in a video game sense. You’re not going to win any prizes with them. But there’s a reason they exist, plus no one is immune to the effects of positive or negative reinforcement.

  • Yup, especially when we’re all being bombarded by the same propaganda in the places that we meet online and spend a considerable amount of time in, we’re all in this together. I’ve seen the discourse about the USA and the culture wars over the last decade in my own country. And from what I’ve gathered through my years of lurking is that shit is darkening the skies and affecting everyone from the UK to Sweden to Australia.

And as far as I can tell, all of our governments have been mostly happy to sit back and watch everything slide into enshittification and misinformation and ruin. Like they all thought the fight was won and the job was done and they could just spend the rest of their lives collecting bloated paychecks and sleeping in parliament. Even Australia’s recent effort to curb social media for children is too little too late I fear.

  • Going to be a bit negative but this is something that’s kinda annoyed me about Android in the last few years. BREAKING: new shortcut available! And then there’s the articles and breaking news for them doing shit like changing the design of the clock slightly every now and then.

What annoys me about all of this is that the very first Android phone that I had, the S4 Mini, that started out on Android 4.3, had custom firmwares around that allowed you to customise every shortcut with anything and choose from multiple styles of clock. Amongst other things.

Which tells me that the folks working on Android could easily make things more customisable but they choose not to so that we can get these articles going on about how awesome a new shortcut is and they get to look like they’re always working on these new ‘innovations’.

They’re running out of ways to add extra cameras, so now they’re acting like adding a new shortcut to a button that should’ve been more configurable in the first place is some sort of technological breakthrough.

  • Firstly the obligatory disclaimer that I’m not American, just someone that has been watching this unfold on the same world wide web that we all use.

Maybe I’m too radical but I would say fully. Whether they want a white christian nationalist country or just wanted cheaper eggs. Because that first thing was never a hidden objective, it was clear from the start. We had people who find secret illuminati pizza messages on bathroom walls take one look at Project 2025, an actual real conspiracy and go “doesn’t look like anything to me”.

So whether they’re true right wingers, conspiracy theorists, or people that closed their eyes and ears and hearts while convincing themselves that this was all about cheaper groceries; I’d say they’re all equally to blame.

  • We don’t need to reach 1M MAU, but having 100k would already be a nice improvement

Definitely agreed with this. And less always (understandably) angry political posters, more escapists that want to chat about movies, games etc. It becomes like that snake eating itself because people that want a break from real life come here and see nothing but the same 24 news cycle as everywhere else. And then, speaking for myself, searching up certain niche communities and finding them either non-existent or with 3 posts from 1 and a half years ago.

I’ve been thinking of porting a couple of my old review posts over here from my banned but not yet closed Reddit account. Just so that, for example, the next time someone visits the Ghibli community there’ll be 4 posts instead of 3.

And the Sonic communities are pretty disappointing too, considering I’m always seeing it mentioned in the wild these days. Makes me think (or hope) that there’s a lot of people like me wishing there was more activity in these areas.

Reddit is sadly still unbeaten in searching up a TV show that you enjoy and finding an entire community built around it. And those communities never took a lot of members. So it shouldn’t be impossible here.

  • I dunno but I always get the impression that these fucking people that are too cool for school and need to loudly tell everyone how little they care about downvotes every chance they get, are probably also the people that go around using downvotes in bad faith and making the platform a little less welcoming for everyone.

My advice would probably be to just stay away from instances that are populated with the kind of people that use downvotes as a ‘disagree’ button or panic button to make themselves feel better when reading something they don’t understand. Those were always the worst people on Reddit that dragged the experience down for everyone. And it sucks that they’re all here too. And in a smaller pond, they’re going to be making a bigger splash.

I’d find a nice instance and / or communities to spend 90% of my time in and only actually go to places like Ask Lemmy in world when you actually feel like dealing with smart alecs and neckbeards.

Edit: and downvoting people for talking about downvotes isn’t actually funny, it’s just proof that you use downvotes for the wrong reasons. For the meme and ‘disagree’ button.

  • I’m aware of ask transgender, but what I had in mind would be a lot more general purpose, like Ask Reddit / Lemmy. Just in a better environment.

Reading that previous post made me remember how intimidating it could be joining forum sites and trying to fit in and find your way at first. I’m pretty sure I was intimidated by Reddit at first way back in the day too.

And Ask Reddit style place is perfect to break the ice in that case. I get the impression that a couple of people that are new(ish) to here are trying that and getting edgy and (maybe unintentionally) abrasive responses. And getting scared off. Which made me think of this instance having a section for noobs or people who just like to ask random questions and chat.

Either way, I’m no moderator as I said. So it’s just a suggestion anyway, for anyone that might think it’s a good idea.
