It’s possible, and if finances are a struggle you just kind of have to make your best guess in some cases, or buy used. Most of the time when shoes have leather, they advertise it pretty boldly, so that helps. Still, you never know - for example, what are the adhesives made out of? That’s why vegan certifications are important, a lot of things can be easily hidden, and a lot of companies aren’t particularly clear on their use of animal products even when reached out to directly.

Going vegan means learning to have to put everything under a microscope. The word ‘vystopia’ exists for good reason.

    @essell
Some shoes have leather in them, in the past it was almost universal that shoes would be made of leather, but with the advent of modern plastics and rubbers most shoes these days aren’t made of leather anymore, since leather is more expensive.

Side note, in the past shoes were much more repairable and there were actually people known as cobblers who would make and, get this, repair shoes. Nowadays many modern shoes, especially sneakers, are built in a way that makes them significantly less if not completely unrepairable, which really sucks. We should be able to repair shoes just like in the old days #righttorepair

I’m seeing 5 root comments, and a follow up, from the same account, all removed by mods. Was it just a troll or did I miss something exciting?

If you really really really want to know you can go look at blahaj’s mod log - but I warn you that some of the stuff removed can be particularly mean, obscene, illegal etc…

It doesn’t show in the modlog but in case anyone is wondering, it was gore/animal violence spam. If you didn’t see it consider yourselves lucky.

I forgot that the really bad stuff gets scrubbed even from the modlog…

What tf is wrong with people who’re posting stuff like that…? Oh yes, I remember, they’ve found a place where people are happy and want to destroy it. I’m pretty confident Ada and Blahaj have more than enough to deal with as it is.

Thanks for any contribution you make to modding or letting people know when the bad stuff shows up.

It’s more like, if it gets removed by “ban with content removal” it never gets announced. Entries can’t really be removed from the modlog when they appear, at least not on all instances at once. It’s actually an unintended bug which will probably be fixed in 1.0 since as of now you can’t even tell comments were removed if someone bans a person with content removal.

Many shoes contain leather or wool or something. Vegan isn’t just about food

“Vegan” originally meant “vegetarian + no non-food animal products”, which later got distorted into “vegetarian”, then thanks to crooks promoting the “carnivore” diet, “person that actually eats their veggies”. No really, the last one started to spread from gymbro forums after one of them said “um, ackchually, fiber is carbs too”.

Depending on the reason for being vegan.

      For animal rights/ethics, yes.

      For health/climate, potentially less so.

Genuine question: Is avoiding leather really that great? Leather seems much more durable than plastic, and its from a part of the animal thats really just thrown away anyway.

          1. making the leather is a horrible process, making skin into the product you know requires a lot of chemicals that aren’t great for the environment

          2. Leather is not necessarily a byproduct but a coproduct.

Vegan “leather” is made of plastic. Plastic is a by product of the oil industry. Oil is made out of dinosaurs. Plastic is not vegan.

Algae and Plankton technically, though some of those plankton (Zooplankton) are animals, not plants, they’re all mixed together and baked under high pressure, no way to separate the zooplankton from the phytoplankton.

Do we have a term for individuals that refrain from eating shoes? Because vegan shoe or not, I identify as a person who doesn’t eat shoes.
