  • Please stay alive, Luigi. Regardless of whether what you did is right or wrong, and whether you actually did it or not, everyone needs you there (including both prosecutors and your defense).

Keep your message consistent, and any correspondence with the courts and police vetted by a lawyer so that it doesn’t get misconstrued.

Please have someone you trust by your side 24/7 or a live feed at this point. Please report any detainment conditions that might intentionally drive someone towards self-harm to the public. People everywhere are counting on you.

  • Yeah, prosecutors are really trying to smear this guy to look dangerous. Try harder. An RF-blocking bag is just to prevent theft, hacking and protect privacy. I’m a bit confident he’s the guy but I can’t say beyond a reasonable doubt given the circumstances and how the police are incentivised to frame anyone.

Since news reports keep jumping around between a McDonald’s customer and a McDonald’s employee offering the tip, every inconsistency will only bolster this guy’s case. I can make guesses that this guy wanted to get caught or was a little sloppy, but if he says otherwise then finding everything including the gun is a little suspicious. Get him the best lawyer in the biz, I’m sure crowdfunding will cover it many times over.

  • Unpopular opinions get super-duper downvoted here but don’t “disappear” as often as on Reddit (not including rule-breaking submissions).

I enjoy talking with the local and Lemmyverse regulars and also with most users. Reddit is so big you get lost in the 10000 comments, however many bots are copying top comments from a past repost you wouldn’t know. Lemmy is a good size now, if anything it should grow out instead of up (revitalizing more niche communities).

Topic niches served well by Lemmy: Linux, being upset at capitalism, Startrek, LBGTQ-friendly crowds on blahaj and beehaw, pcgaming, buying local and quality products (there are fewer suggestions but your average reply is better in quality than Reddit), Woodworking, DIY offgrid living (solarpunk), and a bunch more.

  • Already people are at it coming up with reasons not to like this guy. Are we really expecting someone with perfect morals to suddenly come up with a plan to assissinate a CEO, execute it almost flawlessly and flee?

This guy doesn’t have to be my friend. I don’t really care if he admired right-wingers. Honestly almost everyone (including me) will have goofy stuff that you can bring up to discredit them. Are we not allowed to acknowledge the good that has happened since the shooting because this guy’s book review, a deranged college-age tweet, his preppy upbringing or whatever? We can’t acknowledge that authorizations have somehow gotten faster and denial rates plummeted? That a shitty restriction on anesthesiologist time was reversed? A national conversation was started on how strangely focused America media is on covering certain stories and aspect of that story compared to others? That for once the radical left and radical right could somehow agree on something?

These are the questions swirling through my head today. My hope is most people will see through the bullshit, and how to actually effect change quickly is to put real pressure on the top of the organization, preferably through non-violent means, in ways that truly remind them they are not immune from the damage they cause in search of ever-increasing profit.
