If I read about some horrible news like a grandma getting shot picking olives on her own land I try to follow it up with something more lighthearted such as kittens hugging puppies. As long as they’re not obnoxiously loud and saying something that’s actually funny, I think it’s completely normal. People usually say funny things that they find funny so it would be natural for them to laugh a little.
