It really is shocking that they could somehow get more mainstream
I agree that this may be the only real solution for the time being. I have personally been trying to submit good content to my favorite magazines to combat some of the spam, but there is a real influx of it and it’s making it difficult to use the site.
Yep, there was a time when streaming services actually became easier than piracy. That was when there was basically just Netflix and Hulu. If you had both of those, you had everything.
Feeling morally responsible for the actions of an entire nation sounds like a great way to give yourself ulcers.
But seriously, even in a “democracy”, there is too much shady shit going on behind the curtain to really hold the general public accountable for all of it.
I think “integrated” is a better term for my usage than “addicted”. My phone is an extension of my digital presence, and although I work from a desktop computer day-to-day, my phone is an integral part of my ability to automate and operate my tools, hardware and software. Besides work stuff, it’s also fully integrated into my home life since it’s my interface for my home automation as well as my primary means of staying up to date with news and info I need.
But I don’t really play phone games, and I don’t do social media (other than KBin at the moment, anyway), so I don’t find myself using it in an addictive way too often.
It scratches my scrolling itch. I haven’t really been back to Reddit other than when Google lists Reddit as the best choice for some info I need. But I’ve really enjoyed KBin and the communities that are popping up here. I hope it continues to grow.
Honest question: why?
Type C headphones could easily be a thing (and are already). Then you just have the one port, which to me seems better.
Transparency: I’m someone who just uses Bluetooth headphones and I love them, so I have no real horse in this race. I just like not catching a cord on doorknobs anymore, lol
No more cancer. Life is hard enough as it is.
This is tech journalism now? Might as well have had ChatGPT write the article too…what a waste of time
Well if it’s a soulless corporate cash grab, at least it’ll be just like the game
Awesome, this is long-needed. The SteamVR interface sucks. Hopefully this is a dramatic improvement.
Personally, I keep a Note on my phone which has a list of everything I read, the author, the format (physical, ebook, audio), and my rating out of 5. I then occasionally transfer the data over to a spreadsheet I set up which gives me stats about the genres I read most, authors I like best, etc.
I read 30 - 60 books each year, depending on how busy I am. Mainly this is done via audiobooks - I read about 80% of my books that way while I’m doing mindless tasks like cleaning, cooking, chores etc. I also keep a book on my nightstand and I read every night before bed, often in the morning when I wake up as well.
Join us over in /m/books by the way!
Although, ironically, generated garbage is virtually worthless for SEO.
Good selection! Glad to see more kids getting a chance to read The Hitchhiker’s Guide, as well as to read in general. Good on ya.
I’m still on the same 2 physical books as last week, but I have a new audiobook I’ve started on.

The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy Ultimate Collection - Douglas Adams
Just about done working my way back through this series. Another week or two and it’ll be back on the shelf for a while. Such a fun journey to go through once in a while though.
The Way Of Kings - Brandon Sanderson
I’m within 100 pages of finishing this tome. This is a long book (and the sequel is longer!), but it’s so good. I can’t believe I haven’t torn through Sanderson stuff sooner - between this series and the Mistborn series, he is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors.

A Spy Among Friends - Ben Macentyre
This is an interesting nonfiction about a British intelligence officer named Kim Philby who turned out to be a Soviet spy. It’s pretty good so far.
So glad to see the Bobiverse mentioned here. I re-read these books every now and then, mainly when I need to be inspired to clean up my project queue. “High level project management” is my favorite description of that series. Dennis Taylor has got to be one of my favorite recent authors. Cheers!
It helps to separate the technology from the companies. We don’t need Google, Amazon, or any other company to make use of network connected technology. It doesn’t have to be internet-connected, either. You can have a completely automated home with no more risk of intrusion than a standard locked door already has from a well-placed boot.
I am rotating between 3 this week:
[Physical]
The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy Ultimate Collection - Douglas Adams
Still working my way back through this series - this one actually sits on my nightstand and it’s usually what I read before bed. I love this series and I re-read it every few years to keep it fresh. This is a single volume containing all 6 books.
The Way Of Kings - Brandon Sanderson
Brandon Sanderson is a great author and I really enjoyed the Mistborn series, so I wanted to check out his main work. So far this book is absolutely amazing - an instant fantasy classic. Sanderson is quickly becoming one of my favorites to read. I’m tearing through it and I expect to be done by the end of the weekend. I think I’ll probably start the next one right away.

The Meditations of Marcus Aurelius
I re-read or listen to this book at least once a year. This book should be required reading for men in my opinion, but it’s also great for anyone who wants to learn stoic concepts or just gain insight into one of history’s great minds.
Best thing to do is use an external monitor. You can connect the phone via whatever USB interface it has - there are cheap USB to HDMI adapters on Amazon which should do the trick.
