Hello Everyone!
I finally finished The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Took about 90 hours, and still have a lot left to do, but wanted to find out the full story, so finished the main quest. I liked the story a lot more than BotW. If you have already finished it, what did you think about the story? (without giving away any spoilers). Going to keep playing this as my primary game for a while though, while also thinking about which game to start next.
Secondary games:
- Finished Marvel’s Avengers. Nothing new to say about it. It could’ve been a very good game, if not for Live Service elements.
- Almost finished Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge. I am at stage 14, so just couple of them left. Will check the trophies after finishing the game and see if I want to platinum it. Only playing it with my kid, so going a bit slowly.
- Started The Order 1886, it’s a very small games, 4-5 hours at most, but didn’t get much time to play after starting it, would try to finish it. The games holds up really well visually and gameplay vise.
- I have committed to Monster Hunter: World now. Going to finish it, no matter how long it takes. Until now, I was only playing it with friends, but would try to do some optional stuff solo too, now that TotK is finished.
That’s all for now. What about all of you? What are you playing? And what do you plan to play next? And how are you enjoying them?
I think I’m close to the end of Bowser’s Fury, so I may be able to finish that in a sitting or two. I’m also playing Shredder’s Revenge in a co-op setting, and the DLC announcement was a good reminder to get back into that (think we’re also nearing the end of the story). And there’s a Splatfest, so I feel somewhat obligated to choose a team and play a little, though I’ve definitely been on a Splatoon 3 break lately.
Let’s go Mint Chip!
I don’t play Splatoon 3, but I am rooting for Mint Chip!
Booo, down with Mint Chip! Up with… whichever team I end up picking. (Maybe even Mint Chip!)
Not picking Mint Chip is a banable offense FYI
Bowser’s Fury was really fun, how are you enjoying it?
Good luck with TMNT and Splatoon 3!
Thank you! Bowser’s Fury is a fun experience, and the open-world concept is a cool one. I actually bought this Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury pack on the strength of Bowser’s Fury alone, after reading people speculate that it might be the future of the 3D Mario series. I’m not sure how it would scale to a full game, though… I guess it might also be a little less “whoa dude” in a post-Mario-Odyssey world, since some of those levels were almost such environments in their own right (desert level comes to mind here, with its town area and other areas). The

ongoing boss battle
is equal parts cool and annoying, with the way it gets less avoidable as the game progresses. But on the whole, it’s good stuff… I haven’t even looked at the main title yet, and I feel like I’m close to getting my $40’s worth.
What has the TMNT experience been like for you? I’m a little frustrated at all the button-combo moves I can’t seem to memorize, but that might just be a me-thing. Still having fun with this one, even with the struggles.
Yeah, I don’t think next 3D Mario will be open world like this. They would need to make a world almost as big as Breath of the Wild or it will feel a step back from how much we had in Odyssey. Other than that, loved Bowser’s Fury though, and felt the same about the spoilery part. It started as really cool, and started to lend a bit towards annoying, but from what I recall I enjoyed it till the end.
Mario 3D World is also really fun, I had never played it before, so enjoyed playing with my kid.
Well, about TMNT, I don’t even try to remember all the moves. There are two types of attack: normal and super, and then there is jump, and dodge. You can attack, or jump and attack or dodge and attack. Where attack can be normal attack or super. That’s all I remember and that’s all I do 😀
Still playing totk, 175 hours so far. I need to do Gerudo’s quest and explore both desert areas and that’s it, finally I’ll move on to something else, probably Diablo 4 or something on Gamepass, haven’t decided yet.
There is still quite a bit of story after the Gerudo’s temple. If you keep that pace, it would be 250+ hours before you are done. Or just 180 - 185 if you ignore everything and stick to the main mission.
I would suggest taking your time.
That’s the plan, I want to take my time, there’s no game that I wan to play in the moment (besides one missing chapter in Celeste) so yeah, I think I’m going to explore everything that’s left.
Similar hours, I did Gerudo but skipped Goron area entirely so far. Wrapping a couple side quests (just finished the Laurelin Village water stuff).
Been using Heros Path to see areas I’ve missed and exploring but I’m starting to dial back. Decided I wanna leave a few things untouched for when I do a DLC re-play in a year or so.
That’s a good start, haven’t thought about the dlc but yeah, perhaps is a good idea to leave a couple of things to do and explore at that moment.
Congratulations in finishing Tears of the Kingdom! To me, the story was definitely an improvement from the first game, with more memorable and epic moments.
As for me, last week I broke down and got myself a Steam deck! I already installed several games to try out, with intention to give Ni No Kuni a real shot this time. Last time I played the game I dropped it after several hours because I found combat boring, let’s see if this time will be different.
On Nintendo Switch I am slowly getting through The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles. Currently I am on case 4 of the first game.
And lastly, on PS5, I am playing Forspoken. I finished main story last weekend, and right now I am just roaming the world and doing side activities.
Thanks!
Steam deck is a great device, but I already have so many games to play, getting another “console” isn’t going to help with that. And since you also have PS5, take a look at Chiaki for SteamDeck, to remote play PS5 games. Learned about it from @CosmicSploogeDrizzle@lemmy.world , our resident mod and creator of !ps5@lemmy.ml, you can ping him for any help related to that.
Ni No Kuni is a very fun game, played the first one PS3. A much better Pokémon game than some of the newer Pokémon game.
How are you liking The Great Ace Attorney? I haven’t started the series yet, but going to get the Phoenix Wright games soon.
Same question, how are you liking Forspoken? I liked the demo, but the full game review haven’t been that great. Though some of the people I know who have played the game have enjoyed it.
Thanks for the Chiaki recommendation! I tried it very first day the steam deck arrived, I might play few games this way when SO steals the TV.
Regarding Ni No Kuni, first time I played it I liked the story, but the combat did not click with me (dropped it about 6 hours in). Never played pokemon, so it might be that I’m just not used to that kind of gameplay.
Great Ace Attorney is… well, great. I played the first AA trilogy few years back and liked it a lot, so I knew I would like this games as well, and it definitely delivered. Which collection are you planing to start with? I would suggest the first trilogy, although you can’t go wrong with either of these.
Forspoken is a tough sell. I personally find it fun to play, combat and world traversal are the highlights for sure. The story, while it has it issues, is not as bad as people on the Internet are saying. I would say that if you liked the demo, you would also like the game itself. Not worth the 70$/80€ asking price though.
Yeah, Ni No Kuni was my first Pokémon game too, only later learned that this is what Pokémon games are like. Personally, I wasn’t a huge fan of this either, but got used to it.
I like to play all the games in order, if possible, so will start with first trilogy, and then take it from there. Fortunately it’s available on Switch, so no issues there.
Thanks for the info about Forspoken, I still have tons of games to play, so I am sure it would end up on PS+ before I am ready to buy it. Otherwise will get it on sale in a few years.
Hey, since I was pinged by @slimerancher@lemmy.world I wanted to chime in. Make sure you are using Chiaki4deck and not just Chiaki. Both should be available in the Discover store in desktop mode. The main branch of Chiaki does not properly support the touch pad for games like Ghost of Tsushima and there are other PS5 improvements to things like color reproduction, etc… There is even a steam deck controller layout template for it. I have links to these in the sidebar over on !ps5@lemmy.ml. The creator of chiaki4deck submitted their changes to the main chiaki branch but since it is in maintenance mode, it hasnt been accepted (at least since I last checked). Chiaki4deck is a fork. Let me know if you have any questions!
MK8 5th DLC just came out :-)
I still haven’t tried any of the booster pack maps. Which one is favourite? And which one least favourite?
Oh yeah this is the Nintendo sub, but anyhows: Arknights has a new event and Fate/Grand Order has released the final part of it’s latest story chapter, I am looking forward to playing through the story in those two mobile games as soon as I have time.
Then after that possibly try to find the rest of the armor pieces in Tears of the Kingdom, unless I get too tempted to get started on Master Detective Archives: Rain Code instead.
Yeah, it’s a Nintendo community, but we don’t mind discussing other games in this weekly thread. Half the games I mentioned in main post, don’t even exist on Switch.
I have been hearing good things about Master Detectives Archive: Rain Code. I have trouble staying away from a game if I already have it, so nice work on that! 😀
What is your percentage completed of TotK? I am still at 41%. I thought I might be at least 50+, so was slightly shocked to see it so low.
Haha right!
I missed that there is a percentage after beating the game, will have to check when I get home.
I am probably also quite low. I feel like I have skipped over a lot of the map because I would constantly use the towers or just teleporting to the sky islands to glide directly to locations instead of traveling over land and discovering stuff…
Yeah, it’s very inconspicuous. I found out about percentage from other thread, but even then I didn’t notice it after finishing it. Just thought of it when replying to someone here, so looked it up.
I have played the game same way, that’s why it’s so low. And then after watching it, I completed the full Lurelin Village, it’s not overly long but not short either, and it didn’t increase even a single percentage (I didn’t pay attention to values after decimal point, so not sure how much that increased). Though with so much to do, it makes sense that one side-quest won’t increase completion rate by 1%.
I didn’t touch my Switch for a few weeks, so I’ll be catching up by playing Splatoon 3 (splatfest) and some MK8 in between (wave 5).
What are you going to choose in splatfest? And why is it going to be Mint Chip?
Wow, I did chose Mint Chip haha 🫠 I really like cookies&cream, so it was the closest to that. Also, having played Splatoon since the first one, I shall follow Callie/Marie’s catchphrase, “Stay fresh” haha 😆
Splatoon 3. The mint chip atrocity ends here and now. No more will our children suffer at the hand of such degeneracy.
How dare you!? No blaspheming against Mint Chip!
Almost done with Pikmin, only a few remaining ship parts to collect and I have plenty of days to do it.
Edit: down to the last part but I’ll finish it off in the morning.
Minecraft Story Mode. My kids were too young to remember it the first time so I’ve been playing that with them. Not long started so I hope to finish episodes 1 and 2 this weekend.
I had forgotten about Minecraft Story Mode! My kid loves Minecraft, so looked it up and found out it’s not available anymore, then I remembered why I had taken it out of my mind.
Are you going to play Pikmin 2 next? Or going to wait for Pikmin 4?
Yeah mine have really gotten in to Minecraft this year and while searching for other games I remembered Story Mode and that I never finished all episodes.
I’m going to move on to Pikmin 2 next. We are waiting for 4 but my wife is definitely going to get in there first!
Heh, nice!
Have you played Minecraft spinoffs? I recently finished Minecraft Dungeons with my kid, it was a bit simple for my taste, but had fun playing with the kid. Thinking about getting Minecraft Legend later.
@slimerancher we’ve been playing TotK for the same amount of hours every week 😆 I’m at 90 hours now, but haven’t advanced the story much since last week. After getting all the dragon tears and the Master Sword I’ve kept exploring the map and I went back to the depths to explore more, find some armor pieces and follow one of the story quests related to the Yiga in the depths. I still haven’t done at least two temples, the Zora and the Gerudo ones. Maybe I should get going with that…
I’ve also played the new Mario Kart 8 DLC. It made me nostalgic of playing Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U with friends! I need to organize a Mario Kart night soon.
Pikmin 4 should arrive a week today, so that’ll be next I guess!
Haha, that’s interesting. After finishing the game I have only done about 41% of the game. So still need to do a lot.
How are you liking the MK8 DLC? Any favourite new tracks?
I’m really liking Squeaky Clean Sprint! And the city tracks from Tour are pretty cool too.
Interesting, going to start playing it soon.
Skyward Sword HD! The visuals and dungeons are so fun. Also, it turns out it’s the only Zelda game that’s HD and 60FPS. I hadn’t realized this before. I really hope they remake other Zeldas.
Ah, didn’t know thats. Though now that I think about it, it makes sense. I think Link’s Awakening remake would be an exception too, but it was a 2D one.
I haven’t played Skyward Sword yet. I may play Minish Cap on NSO before the Skyward Sword.
Edit: Minish Cap, not Cup.
I’m really hoping for a switch release of windwaker HD. Sadly I believe it will not happen… 😕
I don’t really know what you’re talking about, I played botw and totk in 1440p 60 fps.
BOTW and TOTK are both 30 FPS - unless you played it on PC or Steamdeck emulated or something
Yeah of course I did. Why would I play such excellent beautiful games on inferior hardware that limits the experience?
I took a break from Zelda to play Final Fantasy 16, went back and I finished TOTK as well. Taking a break from Switch for a bit to play my group Ironman account on old school RuneScape some more. Then I’ll probably start to work through the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters.
How did you like Final Fantasy 16? Finished it? I am hearing great things about it, also that it’s more of an action game than RPG. What do you think about that?
I played RuneScape for a little while, or at least some game that I believed to be RuneScape, it was ages ago. Really interesting to find out that people are still playing it.
Which Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster are you going to start with? Any favourite? or going to start from the 1st one and play them all?
I am a massive Final Fantasy fanboy so, my totally unbiased opinion, it is a masterpiece. The story made me cry like 6 times. It’s excellent story telling. The game play is engaging. Not terribly challenging but it could be for folks less familiar with action games. There are ways to decrease the difficulty on a few different axis by equipping certain accessories. The side quests can be a little fetchy but I think even the worst ones add some depth to the world. There’s plenty of optional bosses too. It’s my personal game of the year although Tears of the Kingdom is probably more deserving overall for more broad appeal and polish.
There are two versions of Runescape - old school and RuneScape 3. RS3 is the older of the two. It’s been the natural continuation of the game with a controversial overhaul of the combat system to make it more traditionally mmo adjacent. Old school started in 2013 from a back up copy of the game pre-2007 when the change occurred. Jagex now runs both simultaneously. Old school is the game you would remember if you played back in the day. It’s bigger than ever. At any given time there are well over 100k folks playing. Regular new content and updates. It’s amazing.
I’ll probably start with FF1 and go from there. I’ve played them all before in other versions so I might as well go in order.
my totally unbiased opinion
Of course! And I expected nothing less from you!
Glad that you liked it. From what I have seen and heard, it does seem to be a strong contender for GOTY.
Ah, I just searched for Old School Runescape, and it’s exactly how I remember. Wow, so many people such an old game, and which looks like so ancient! It once again proves that graphics aren’t everything.
Good luck with FF marathon. I haven’t played many of the classics, only FF7, and FF9. I may give the rest a try, just to see how they are.
I bought Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 for switch, just to he able to play a slow pace game while on holiday.
I used to LOVE tycoon games. Haven’t played one it a very long time. Is Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 a good one to start with? Or should I look somewhere else?
Yeah it is a good one, graphics are a bit dated, bur the game is super complete. I read some reviews of the newer games, but these appear to be repackaged mobile games, with the pay to play features stripped. The newer games also lCk management features that RT3 does have.
Thanks for the info, will definitely check it out.
Splatoon 3. Maybe once strawberry wins, people will understand that it’s just better than plain vanilla or whatever mint choco is supposed to be X)
Where are the mods! Someone ban this guy!
(BTW my daughter loves Strawberry, so I can stand behind it.)
Strawberry lost.
I am now going to sulk for a while (T^T)
So, did Mint Chip! What has the world come to!
I have been playing slice the spire for a couple of weekends, but I think I got tired of it now and the fking spire is way too hard too beat (feel free to leave tips here)
Anyway I will play either the recent zelda skyswords or mario 3d plus browsers fury
You mean Slay the Spire? I never finished it. It’s a really fun game though. Don’t have any tips, hopefully someone else will leave some.
Good luck with whatever you choose, both are very good choices.
Still grinding my way through the endgame of Diablo IV with my wife. Starting to slow down though, just in time for Pikmin 4 to keep things fresh next week!
Nice! What classes are you playing as? And how are you liking the game? Also, have you seen the trailer for the first season? What did you think about it?
I always start a new Diablo game with spin2win Barbarian, so that’s what I’m doing to start with; I’ll probably switch to Sorcerer or Necromancer for the season. My wife is doing a Pulverize Druid, and we’ve both been enjoying it! We put hundreds of hours into D3 together, so we’re just happy to have something fresh but familiar to dig into.
As far as the trailer goes, I like that there’s new quests and story to go with it, but it’s hard to get too much from it without any significant gameplay reveal. The description the devs gave sounds interesting though!
“Spin2win Barbarian” sounds fun. I generally start with some magic class, but then switch to Barbarian later, to get close and personal with the enemies! (Haven’t started D4 yet though).
Diablo games are fun to play co-op, I played Diablo 3 a bit with my wife, would try to get her to play again when we get D4.
Yeah, Diablo games hit a good sweet spot— mechanically engaging enough to make moment to moment gameplay feel dynamic , but not so engaging that it’s too difficult or overwhelming for inexperienced gamers like my wife. Diablo 3 was one of the first handful of games she learned how to play during the COVID lockdown (after Animal Crossing, of course 😂)
Haha, same here. She loved Animal Crossing, and enjoyed Diablo 3 after that, but we didn’t get into it that much. Would try again with Diablo 4.
