Tried out the demo in late 2024. I really like the concept. It didn’t feel like all those "[retail store type] simulator] UE5 asset flips that are all over Steam. It has it’s own visual style and IMO has more refined core gameplay mechanics. Sure, some of the gamplay is similar (and can be very addicting), but you can see that thought was put into the gameplay mechanics.
If the 1st person store simulator concept seems intriguing, but you are looking for something beyond a quick UE5 asset flip, I would recommend to check this out.
I am surprised that it was released for free. I briefly interacted with the dev in late 2024 and I was under the impression that there would be a commercial release in 1H 2025.
Looks like it’s mainly a “tycoon” game in the RCT sense, i.e. you build your business, choose what goes where, and try to make money, am I reading it right? And is the first person bit just a kind of novelty mini-game like riding the rollercoasters?
Yeah, it’s a business SIM. The first person elements are part of the gameplay in the early game before you get employees. You have to do everything yourself.
Btw, I believe I was mistaken and this may actually be a demo (didn’t see a link to the mainline game steam store page), so it might be worth deleting this post.
Hmm, it doesn’t call itself a demo or otherwise imply it’s not a full game anywhere I can see
It looks like the page for what will presumably be the paid-for game is here:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2870330/Grocery_Store_Tycoon/
Not released yet, though.
Being it calls itself First Store, I’ll infer that this is a demo. Not unlike all the other demos I run across saying first chapter.
There is a website I get in my Google feeds that always advertised steam free games and they turn out to be mostly demos.
