Can’t wait for Lemmy to take off and then have people forever being “ omg I was here before the Reddit lot hipsters” but they got here 10 mins ago like me.

To be honest, I was on Reddit for 8-9 years and never really felt part of anything I just lurked a lot. So maybe that will change with a “new” platform that already feels less corporate.

It didn’t start off to bad, but then mods on some subs got to much power. Then there seemed to be always adverts but some adverts disguised as regular posts. Then celebrities started getting involved with AMA’s and the place was cleaned up and lost pretty much all its soul.

The celebri-fication of IAMA definitely felt like a turning point for the website becoming more corporate.

It was “I Am A…” and you’d get interesting AMAs from “mundane” people like air traffic controllers or plumbers who didn’t have anything to sell and just wanted to talk about what they do. Then it just became “I Am…” and it’d be a celebrity there to just hawk their latest project.

I miss it, and really need to check if a good IAMA alternative sprung up here.

Yeah I miss IAMA (normal person) the celebrity stuff would always just be one that has something coming out and they would usually just plug that stuff, boring. This is the internet. It’s for the people IDGAF about celebrities personally. I also feel Reddit became to political.
