The new tyre rules definitely were entertaining because different teams were strong on different tyre compounds. (RUS Q1 exit on hards vs. HAM pole in Q3 on softs)
This may be a fluke so I hope they try this rule again a few more times this year to see if it really creates more entertainment. And then implement it for good next year.
Russell was hampered by the meelee and jostling when he was starting his final flying lap in Q1. He would have also been there if he had a clean run in that final attempt. I felt that the grid would have been close enough if the normal quali rules were followed
I think the new tire rules might pair well with sprint qualifying. It’ll mix up the grid a bit and keep the sprint interesting while also making regular quali and sprint quali orders somewhat different.

I liked the new tire rules as we have a much better idea what each teams’ true place is on each compound (well, for the top 10 anyway).
