I’m semi taking the piss. The northerners I’m referring to are the red wall voting Labour voters that felt so strongly about Brexit that they voted in a blonde haired clown to see it through.

North South East West aside, Labour still have a huge problem in that a sizeable proportion of their electorate is pro Brexit. Not as existential as the Tories, mind. But they can’t afford to lose these to Reform or back to the Tories. They’ll need to make a hard decision to leave these voters out of their electoral calculus for several elections if they want to align closer (or rejoin) with the EU.

It’s for that reason I don’t believe we’ll rejoin under either Labour or (obviously) Tories. The Tories you can understand. It’s Labour that I’m disappointed with.

True. However it is classed as an inheritance and not ownership transfer if the previous owner dies within seven years. There’s a sliding scale, if I remember correctly so you pay less inheritance tax if, say, your parents die after six years compared to one year after transfer. But farmers have been historically exempt from this rule so transferring ownership before the rule changes could be quite a significant tax saving.

Honestly the article doesn’t do a good job of explaining the problem, or how it’s going to be fixed.

Would you expect the guardian to explain it? That’s like the Sun trying to explain a complex economics problem without referring to Boobs And Bust. Or the Daily Mail trying to explain anything without blaming immigrants.

I know at first it sounds difficult because you care for your parents. But this is your life and whether they choose to respect your choices or not is up to them. If you want kids, have kids. If you want to be an atheist, be an atheist. If you want to dye your hair blue, dye your hair blue.

Your parents don’t have to agree with your choices (as long as you’re not breaking the law or anything like that)… but they should respect you and your choices.
