Okay, so like this is terrible, but come on Reuters, can you not also put the word temporary in front of legal status in the headline like you do the article?

Isn’t every immigrant who is not yet a US Citizen only temporarily legal? I think that’s the issue here.

They spent all their time talking about the horrible illegal immigrants, and ‘I have no problem with the immigrants doing things right’. And now they are showing they are prepared to just unilaterally decide whoever they want to deport, is on the block no matter what their current status is. If they aren’t a citizen, then they can be declared illegal and shipped out.

It just highlights the lie that a lot of the more liberal minded people knew was there. It was never about legal status.

You know, when you put it that way, I think you might be right.

That temporary status might even be indefinite, but it’s probably technically temporary.

Lol no. Every immigrant except green card holders and naturalised citizens are temporary. That would be like saying wet water each time.

Even green cards can be revoked. I know someone who got their US citizenship when Trump got into office the first time because he was worried something might happen to his green card.

It can be revoked, but the the official name of the card is a “permanent resident card” because holders have the status of “permanent resident.” Calling them temporary wouldn’t really clarify anything.

Strictly speaking, even citizenship can be revoked; there’s a difference in the legal term permanent as it applies to residency and the common definition of the word.
